I always tell my puppy clients “we can teach a dog to walk on a loose leash and have obedience at any age. lets focus on the things we CANT change when theyre an adult” ie, nails, confidence etc!

at my previous job We had a puppy for like 2 weeks doing like a puppy board and train and I think towards the very end is when we started working very lightly on like and I mean very lightly I'm like basic commands

YES obedience can come later! Building play, building your relationship, teaching the word “no”, teaching how to settle, and socializing are far more important thing in my opinion!

I taught my puppy some flashy obedience and tricks at a young age, and she was still so heavily socialized to everything else. Nail trims, sounds, etc. I think it’s really just a handler based option on how you wanna do it;))

Teaching my dog to settle was the best thing I ever did. Tethering and crate training were the best things I did. Now he sleeps and settles whenever, even when he hasn’t gotten all of his needs met yet because he knows his needs will be fulfilled. It’s especially helpful on days where I’m super sick and I can’t do the things we normally do. He knows how to just chill and relax

I tell my clients it takes two years to train anyways and you’re always training so enjoy building a relationship at least for the first six months and then you can add in the obedience, but just by building our relationship obedience comes into play naturally
