Soap traditionally is made from lye and animal fat, like tallow or lard. This process here is the way that people for hundreds of years made soap. If you want to clarify your oil before using in in soap, you can use the cornstarch and water method, or some people strain it through cheesecloth to filter it, or use the gelatin method. Great way to make the most of what you have on hand.

You can clean the oil before using it. Make a mixture of corn starch and water and mix it in the oil as you heat up. Then strain and you’ll be left with clean oil. For the people that are worried about the smell, it usually disappears as saponification is changing everything

remember. lye soap needs to rest/cure for at least 3 months or it will irritate/burn the skin.

Have you tried making lye from banana ash? You seem to harvest a lot of bananas so you can perhaps try making your own version of black soap from the skins and leaves 🙏
