We don't use them in NZ because gates here typically hang off strainer posts that are held by the wire fence and there's often a back stay for the fence tension

Australia farmer here and grew up with my grandparents dairy farm and never seen that never used them

I grew up on a beef property in qld and have never seen that style. We used rocks or a bit of a timber stump to sit the gate on or I have seen some with wheels so when you open the gate it’s not pulling your post over.

the only issue with hanging gates in line , is if you leave a gate often, its at right angles and will drag your post over. if you hinge the gate from the side, when it open its against the fence and when its closed it pulling away from the wire assisting the strainer ans stay

you can either use a tapered block that sits on the ground and the gate can run up the side, that way there is now hooks sticking out or put a wheel on your gate

Keep them fat, their feet shouldn’t get that close, as for the tractor ? If it works for you, it works. Just don’t let a thorough breed near it, as they manage to be able to turn anything into a weapon 😂
