Cruises are expensive. Cruisers should be able to get to enjoy the cruise without having to worry about tipping. Cruises make enough money to pay the staff a decent wage. Period.

Why not keep it simple… that is, include these charges directly in the ticket prices, so that the passenger does not end up with a second bill at the end of the trip, which is disappointing when travelling.

I used to prepay AND tip in cash until I did my research and found out the gratuities go towards their wages NOT as additional wage/tip. If you don’t pay the gratuities, Royal still has pay their complete wages

Personally, I feel like the gratuity should be extra on top of the employees salaries. I don’t think that tipping should fund their salary completely. That is royal Caribbean‘s responsibility. I remove all gratuity and I tip everybody I come in contact with with cash each time I see them.

My fear in removing gratuities is that royal Caribbean already tracks every move you make on the website, app, and on board to set pricing for you. For example, if you keep checking the price for the drink package they know you want it, so they will leave the price high. So if they know I am a serial gratuity remover, I worry my future cruises will be more expensive.
