R12 & 22 were the best and I believe it only banned because of patent rights. Can still get both in other countries Mexico for one

They banned our 22 because the pattern was running out and anybody could make it. So the company had their own product band so they could sell a new product with a new lock in pattern. Then they did it again. And they will do it again in the future. Had nothing to do with our 22 being dangerous to the atmosphere. It did have everything to do with the company that that was losing the pattern and no longer had a monopoly on the Freon.

When l first started you could carry R12, 22 & 502 & service most systems. Now you could carry up to 6 bottles & not have the correct refrigerant. The industry in Australia is ridiculous.

When I started in refrigeration in 1978 we had 3 gasses on the van, R12, R22 & R502, when I retired in 2018 I carried 10 cylinders of gas, im glad I’m out of it now
