I was a medical assistant for the hospital…this is very common unfortunately & exactly why I tell everyone to not put it on your license, but to inform your family of your wishes.

RN here. Organ donation is contacted on ALL cardiovascular deaths or when a person is thought brain dead. Whether you are an organ donator or not, even if you are 89 years old. Even if it says organ donator on your license, the next of kin still has to give consent. I have never once seen someone’s possibility of being a donator play into medical decisions.

Not surprising, doctors have hidden contracts with elite clientele that make them select patients for donations so then the hospital willingly fall back on giving optimal care and treatment in order to fulfill the needs of the contracts. This happens and goes unnoticed for a lot of patients of color and children in order to obtain organs, stem cells and specific genotypes that haven’t been able to replicate in certain other people
