At Pentecost in Acts 2, Peter stood in front of a crowd and called Jesus “a man attested to you by God.” A man. Not God walking among them. If Peter believed he had spent three years next to God himself, that is not the word he would have chosen. His own apostles never called Jesus God except for one outlier line in the Gospel of John, where Thomas says “my Lord and my God,” which was likely an editorial addition and not something Thomas actually said. Whether Jesus was God, and if so, in what way was he God, was the central question at the Council of Nicaea that was convened by Emperor Constantine to come up with an official doctrine to resolve all disagreements. So, the Christian doctrine that Jesus was himself God came centuries later, from men who never knew him, and this idea did not come from the Nazarene/Ebionite movement, which was the movement originally led by James, Peter, and John. It came out of the Christian movement started by Paul. #Jesus #exvangelical #deconstructingchristianity #thejesusway #acts2
