I always liked what was said in The Kalama Sutta where the Buddha told his audience not to accept anything merely out of tradition, scripture, or because he said it. Instead, he instructed them to observe the results of the methods he was teaching and the actions that arose from this practice themselves.

I think any attempt to “spread” Buddhism goes against the teachings. Only give tea to those that want it. If someone prefers a different drink or no drink at all, that’s their business. I have a great respect for people. I place that respect higher than any want I have to spread Buddhism. If someone came to me though, I would be thrilled to talk though.
