@thealisonedit_: We walked around looking for her grave and after awhile we were ready to give up. We thought maybe there’s no stone. That’s when this nice man asked us if we needed help. He knew how to read the map and found exactly where her grave should be, stuck his shovel in to see if there was something there and started digging around it. We felt terrible to see grass had completely grown over their stone. 💔💔💔 *** EDIT*** Few things to address here: Saying we (the family) doesn’t care and that’s why we don’t visit is crazy. My sister and parents and I took care of her until her last breath. She used to say “I used to change your diaper and now you’re changing mine”. She lived with us and we took care of her every need. I named my daughter after her. My family was extremely close with my Abuelita. Her grave is not where we go to honor her or talk to her. We have an insane amount of memories and reminders of her EVERYWHERE. We do not need to go to where her body is. Her soul is EVERYWHERE around us and if you saw how she is honored in our everyday lives in our homes you would eat your words. As for the cemetery, some of my family is angry and blaming them but we aren’t. We feel bad for not knowing it could happen and did happen. We cleaned off other graves while we were there and plan to do more next time I go. We are sure it sunk due to rain because this is the only area of the cemetery that had almost no grave stones showing. I have family members buried here for longer than them and their stones are showing just fine. This nice man knew how the spaces were spaced out and he walked the spaces to find the exact area she should be. He did not “know because he remembered putting sod on her”. I won’t be naming the cemetery because that is not the point. The point is for people to know this can happen and that it more than likely IS the families responsibility. It doesn’t make you a shit person for not going, but it will probably make you go check on their grave more often. Or maybe it will make you want to be cremated and avoid cemeteries. And the last thing I’ll say is for the people saying that I didn’t pay for maintenance - I didn’t pay for shit because I am the great granddaughter and didn’t ever meet my Abuelito. He was buried here 45 years ago before I was born and that is more than likely when the spaces were purchased. It had nothing to do with me I am simply a granddaughter who went looking for their Abuelitas grave to find out it was buried. They raised it for us. Yall going in on me are crazy but I knew you would come comment your BS cause that’s what you’re on TikTok for. 🩷🩷🩷
So in other words, you’re admitting y’all, haven’t been there in quite a while

That is definitely not grass that grew over the stone. The cemetery tried covering it. You guys gotta talk to the owners of the cemetery and figure out why that happened. That’s horrible.

These comments are not it. Even if a grave received NO visitors, the person buried there deserves to have their marker preserved.

My grandma died in the 90s and is buried in North Carolina. I haven't been on that side of the country in years bc of the money it takes for a trip like that. These comments of judgement don't understand the privilege of being able to frequently visit the gravesite of their loved ones.

That’s brand new sod. You can’t lift regular grass like that. 🙄

mind you, sometime people don’t live in the same city or state as their loved ones and can’t always visit as often as they might like

OK, so that’s not overgrown they definitely laid sod over her gravestone. I’d be interested in finding out how many other tombstones are covered!

That’s good grass. Take that home and plant it in your yard!!! Plus it has your abuelitos name in it. They will be part of your lawn.

The grass didn’t grow over it, they’ve laid it there intentionally. You might want ti check in to whether they’re trying to resell that plot.

Cemetery’s jobs are to keep their markers and headstones preserved if they have visitors or not

mi abuelo murió hace más de 15 años y jamás fuí a su tumba (ahora menos que estoy bastante lejos) pero siempre lo recuerdo, hablo de él con amigos y familiares. Para mí fue el mejor abuelo y con eso me conformo
