@geovannyvicenter: Buck Hill Lives in Jazz History | The Legendary “US Mail” Mural at 14th & U Street NW, Washington DC In the heart of Washington D.C.’s historic U Street cultural corridor, the monumental “US Mail” mural pays tribute to Buck Hill, the legendary jazz saxophonist affectionately known as the “Wailin’ Mailman” for balancing an extraordinary music career while working for the United States Postal Service for more than 40 years. Located at the iconic intersection of 14th & U Street NW, this towering 70-foot portrait was dedicated in August 2019 and created by Tucson-based artist Joe Pagac as part of the acclaimed MuralsDC project. The mural captures the soul of Washington’s jazz legacy and the artistic energy that made U Street — historically known as “Black Broadway” — one of the most influential African American cultural districts in America. This video is more than a look at a stunning mural; it is a celebration of jazz history, public art, and the enduring cultural spirit of Washington D.C. Fun Fact: Buck Hill performed alongside jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Byrd while simultaneously maintaining his career with the U.S. Postal Service for over four decades. #GeovannyVicenteRomero #BuckHill #WashingtonDC #JazzHistory #MuralsDC
