Krause Shayne Armstrong Director Renny Harlin -------------------------------------------- “Deep Water” (2026) tries to be the next big shark survival movie… but ends up feeling like every shark movie you’ve already forgotten. The setup actually had potential: a plane crash in the middle of the ocean, survivors trapped on floating wreckage, and hungry mako sharks circling underneath. The crash sequence is chaotic and intense — easily the best part of the film. But once the sharks finally appear, the movie sinks fast. The characters are paper-thin, the CGI sharks look weak, and the suspense never really lands. It spends too much time repeating clichés instead of bringing anything fresh to the genre. Aaron Eckhart does what he can, but Angus Sampson completely steals the movie as the most obnoxious passenger imaginable — honestly, you’ll spend the whole film waiting for the sharks to eat him first. If you love dumb shark movies, you might get some fun out of it. But compared to films like “The Shallows” or “Deep Blue Sea,” this one feels more like a forgettable straight-to-streaming thriller with a theatrical release. Big crash. Bigger sharks.
