In my 30 years of service, 25 which were spent at the rank of sergeant or below and including four officer-involved shootings, I’ve learned that two things can be true at once: this shooting will likely be deemed legally justified, but it was also a case of absolutely horrible tactics. If I were reviewing this incident, I’d be addressing the lack of emotional control and the dangerous “tombstone courage”. This case screams “officer-induced jeopardy”, a factor that will almost certainly be the centerpiece of the civil trial and will likely result in a costly settlement or a verdict against the department.

I feel the shoot is good, but an argument can be made that poor tactics caused the shooting. But that’s assuming there wasn’t a firearm inside the vehicle.

Yeah, I’m never comfortable with putting my gun that close to a suspect when going hands-on or in a fight because it’s just up for grabs at that point and a ND is just too easy to happen ..plus my agency Lapd will ding tf outta me for tactics
