since 2011, the los bichos region of bugtopia has been "off the grid." most locals blame the spontaneous implosion of the greater grubgrub county antimatter plant, as well as that one incident that turned all the coal in west bugtopia into puffed-rice chocolate. however, truth be told, the fault falls primarily on the failings of democracy: residents of los bichos voted against additional funding for the greater grubgrub antimatter plant 13 times in a row, between 1997 and 2013, all the way up to its spontaneous implosion. not only that, but the town played a key role in the eventual 2011 pardoning and release of the Chocolatier, the nefarious chocolate-themed supervillan, and los bichos native, who would go on to be the primary catalyst of the "puffed-rice chocolate" incident. to this day, the chocolatier's true identity is unknown, and he is believed to still be at large. since then, the locals of los bichos have managed to get by on hordes of double-A batteries, thanks in large part to the nearby alkaline battery plant. but the consequences for los bichos residents have been steep: electricity costs in los bichos approach $480/kwh, nearly 5,000 times the national average. in times like these, it takes an exceptional individual to redeem the failings of the mediocre masses— and for the town of los bichos, that individual was animal researcher and former evil scientist dr. archibald insidious. by combining the raw power-generating strength of alkaline batteries with the high-demand energy output of his loyal pooch, dr. insidious managed to achieve a breakthrough: a dog-powered means of generating electricity from little more than dry dog food... and the results have to be seen to be believed. for an upstart cost of just 1500 dollars, dr. insidious has been able to generate a steady flow of power in the range of 2 to 5 jigawatts— and while less efficient than the town's former antimatter plant, the low cost combined with trivial deployability could mark an end to los bichos' energy crisis.
