My Memorial Day poem;
A Soldier’s Heartfelt Offering
On this solemn Memorial Day,
I speak to those who still remember—
To every heart that pauses, that cares,
And honors what was freely given.
Those who can’t love us, I pray you see,
We did not choose the fields of fire,
Nor the distant shores where thunder roared.
We signed our names upon the line,
And offered up our days, our nights, our lives—
For a nation that may never fully grasp
The weight we carried then,
The shadows we still walk through now.
Yet even in the quiet aftermath,
We rise each morning to wage a different war—
The silent battles within the mind,
Where fallen brothers and sisters call on our Lord I pray.
Twenty-two a day we lose to unseen wounds, And still we fight for them,
Carrying their names like sacred banners
Across the hidden fields of memory.
To the folded flags that rest upon our shelves—
To the comrades whose laughter echoes still—
I miss you with a depth no words can hold.
To the vets who remain in the battle, and the spouses who stand beside us I love you dearly.
Stay strong in the Lord.
Let faith be both sword and shield.
Those who choose to stay—
Who walk this road with open hearts—
Deserve our deepest devotion.
And Sandy…35 yrs & five days you stayed by my side, your devotion can’t be matched,
Though God called you home before I was ready, Know this: I love you deeply.
“Your absence Sandy has not broken me—
It has only deepened the gratitude
For every moment we were given to love.”
To all who served, who remember, who remain—
May grace surround you,
May peace find you,
And may we never forget
The sacred cost of freedom!
Love your freedom and be free in Christ I pray this Memorial Day!
