I talk to them and check on them all the time, I’m privileged to be the custodian of their peace now

Doing cemetery surveys I always tried to not step on the depressions, and apologized when I accidentally did. Would say silent prayers and greetings for the people there. There is no good archaeology without humanity. That’s why most of us do it - because we care about humanity, not because we want to own it.

This is beautiful! And it’s more than bodies too—it’s finding the foundations of buildings in which these people used to live, learning about their lives while following in their footsteps. It’s taking the archival data and mapping them to the ‘lumps and bumps’ in the ground, and knowing that you’ve found something that exists only in historic maps and the memories of those long gone. And then it’s finding the physical remnants to which there’s no reference, even in an active and documented location. Archaeology is the bridge between history and contemporary.

I speak to them. I am so privileged to be the first person to remember them, and get to know them again after hundreds of years.

I have such mixed emotions about this. As someone who has felt like they’ve never had a home and struggles with MDD, all I can think about how nice it must be to just finally rest, but I’m so curious and love history and culture.

I did my capstone on ancient wine making in Georgia, how Qvevri were made and utilized and some of the earliest evidence of wine in the world. I LOVE archaeology and comparative studies between ancient and modern examples and the contiguous nature of some things in humanity

I have this deep love for both paleontology and archaeology and the only downside is that I don’t know which one I would like to study if I choose to go to college or what I would specifically study. I want to know everything!

you are removing them from there resting place, but uncovering the past helps the future and all you can do is try to provide as much respect and kindness as you can

I was helping on a community dig and found a couple of bracelets in one of the rooms that they were uncovering and they were so small they must have been a child’s and I was so upset that this child couldn’t wear them anymore and the actual archaeologist also got upset over it
