my dad had a job at one of the biggest electric companies in Mississippi and Arkansas. they were hiring for linemen apprenticeships starting at $900 a week. I asked him to help me get that job and he told me no and I asked why he told me because nobody helped him get a job. and told me dont use him as a reference. and that was the last time I ever spoke to him its been 11 years now.

My adult children live with me rent-free with me. I still pay their phone bills. Give them money when they need it. Pay their student loan bills. I added them to my credit cards. I just want them to save their money to have a fresh start in life.

That’s because most black parents are struggling too. Some of them couldn’t afford the children when they had them so they can’t prepare them for the world. They barely prepared themselves.

my parents never taught me how to drive, didn’t help me apply for colleges, let me attend a $20,000 a year private college, put utility bills in my name before i ever had my own place, forced me to put all the school loans in my name, didn’t allow me to have a bf so i had no way of navigating relationships & ended up marrying the first man who told me he loved me!!😫
