how does it work when they check onboard the trains. for proof of purchase? just tap your payment card and they check for a recent purchase?

Honestly not sure. Recently they've just been asking to see if you have a tap card, not even if it's been tapped. Metro hasn't made an official announcement yet as far as I know so we'll have to wait and see.

with this are they charging by distance? because with metro card after a certain amount it's free as well as with a metro card life plan it's 20 free rides.

People just make sure you’ll be able to show proof of ticket purchase at checkpoints . Or you can just activate TAP in you phone. Much easier I think 😂

I had a tap card back in 2015 that let me link my debit card to my tap card but the pilot program eventually was shut down around 2016
