the “no one gets A’s” mentality always makes me so mad, if something is objectively well made, factually correct, and perfectly adheres to any guidelines or rubrics given for the assignment it’s an “A”, scores between 100-90 aren’t hypothetical, they’re something that can be earned based on what you turn in, just like every other grade

like when you’re a selective college, the students you accept are going to do very well. as long as the grades align with the rubric and the rubrics are rigorous enough, then who cares? academics shouldn’t be competitive, grades should be earned regardless of the scores of others

i dont get it. if you complete all the requirements of the assignment well then you should get an A. if everyone does it well then everyone gets the A. its just so embarrassing for an educational institution to discourage everyone from excelling. they literally dont want everyone to learn

I always think this is so stupid. The only reason grade inflation could be problematic is if professors are lowering the expectations or rigor. As long as those keep strong, it doesn't matter if more or less people get A's. However, MANY students rely on scholarships that mandate a very high GPA. You'll effectively be kicking capable people out of school over this.

I dont remember exactly what it was because it was years ago but at my law school the grading curve was something like only 15% of the class got get a B+ or higher and only an additional 3% could get an A+. At least for the first year. It was so annoying

the only reason to impose this is to ensure competition, if it is not followed up in other ways ie culturally at the school it flat out won't work

How does this make sense? If all students are able to comprehend 90% or above of the material, them not getting an A does not change the fact that they still comprehend the material at well above or at the expected level of comprehension. So what if they all get an A? A student understanding 4.5% more of a concept doesn’t really seem to be particularly meaningful in terms of harming their ability to get into graduate and doctoral programs.

My college had a special rule for the education department- 93-100 was an A 85-92 B etc. They claimed that it prevented grade inflation, but it just nuked a lot of our GPA dependent scholarships
