Not to nitpick, but, the parapet is the whole balcony the archers stand on. It was a missing merlon. The merlons are the upright parts, while crenels or crenellations are the valley parts of the wall top.

I don’t think the older set’s instructions were made to be that heavily discussed. Pre-internet being what it was…there was more speculation and do what you thought was proper.
