Most people don’t mind paying diagnostic, thing is there is no mechanic on earth worth 250- 300 plus for a diagnostic unless my car is in multiple different pieces, I walked into a place to get my moms gas cap fixed because it was dislodged, tried to charge 400 for diagnostic😂

People complain about paying a second diagnostic fee at another shop, but that second shop still has to verify the first shop’s diagnosis because they’re the ones taking responsibility for the repair. It’s similar to medicine you usually wouldn’t go to one hospital for a diagnosis and then expect another hospital to immediately perform surgery without doing their own evaluation first.

I love it when customers come in with something like a P0301 code and say it probably just needs a coil or something. Last one was a LS with a loose valve seat, customer supplied a new plug and coil though, big help.
