The best way I heard localism explained was video games… when your character is in a specific location only that area has been rendered. As you move through the game it renders(loads) the other parts. Our universe behaves in a very similar way. In a video game your character is the ONLY thing interacting with each level/area. In the universe there are particles, atoms, light, sound waves etc that are interacting. If nothing is interacting with something essential it doesn’t exist anymore (locally) but once something does start interacting with it, it exists again. It has nothing to do with consciousness.

The universe wants to not exist so bad, Jesus. It’s like things are real but not really, just don’t look too close. Reality is a scam. Somtimes I have to fight the urge to think of the universe as a simulation it feels like something a simulation would do to save on resources. Like superpositions they’re like that until they NEED to be rendered otherwise they just do whatever

i know scientists often dismiss “ancient” knowledge but some philosophers actually had location as a property of the object as opposed to external to it. in other words, the moon’s coordinates are inherent to the moon; it is not merely 238,000 miles from Earth or in this solar system, if that makes sense. so, in theory, quantum teleportation is NOT destroying the object at point A and recreating it at point B. you are teleporting the property of its location from where it was to where you want it to be. this might be the secret to “superliminal” space travel. we don’t have to exceed the speed of light. we just need to reorient the way we think about travel. we are used to the classical realist model of picking up a cup in the drying rack, filling it with water, and moving it to the dining table. in theory, we can move the cup in a different way. for what it’s worth, i think we are very very far from such tech, but that’s the only way i see us ever traveling and exploring space beyond our solar system. propulsion isn’t it; we have to be able to manipulate the property of location within our craft, to move instantaneously from here to wherever. bonkers sounding, i know

so the problem is thinking that rules for a system were ever ment to define a individual.... its like when people at a football game start to do the wave, you can write a rule for that system, but when you look at Bob in seat F3 he might be tying his shoe or going to the bathroom or getting a hot dog or doing the wave. the rule for the whole system was never meant to define what Bob did... and Bob has a whole field of probabilities he could be doing but its only when you look and find Bob do those probabilities collapse into what hes actually doing, you can know where he is, or how fast hes going but not both because the way we measure Bob is only a snapshot of the big picture

This somehow sounds like how light is both a wave and a particle kind of thing. If you have to give for either localism or realism in quantum mechanics, maybe there’s just another property we’re not considering.
