Andrew Gossman :
Inflation calculator says that $155.13 in 2001 has the same buying power as $290.72 in 2026. If someone recreated that receipt today, it would probably be closer to $500.

People used to walk around the grocery store with carts full of groceries. Like stacked to the top and sometimes people had to have two carts…. Look around the store next time you’re out and notice how everyone’s carts have so much less in them.

$100 used to fill our house for at least two weeks. Now $100 is like one meal and some house essentials

Businesses gaslight us into forgetting we used to buy shampoo for under $5, deodorant for $2, and had our carts busting at the seams for 1/3 of what we pay now. Crazy.
