You see deep in his heart. Vegeta understood morality and good and bad. Vegeta went so deep in the dark that he became the very thing he hated. In that moment he understood that you have to sometimes be a monster but you cant let it overtake you completely as it did him.

He made me who I am don’t let him do it to anyone else is so much lamer than “he must die by a saiyans hand.” Vegeta was not so sentimental, especially at that point in the story. He was evil! The complexity comes from his saiyan pride and wanting Goku to get revenge ! Not some noble sense of righteousness. That old dub was important and probably necessary, but god did it butcher things.
