The creation of the bright blue light-emitting diode (LED) using gallium nitride (GaN) in the early 1990s was one of the greatest technological breakthroughs of the late 20th century, earning Japanese scientists Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano, and Shuji Nakamura the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics. While red and green LEDs had already been invented by the early 1970s, the absence of the third primary color — blue — made it impossible to create a full RGB color palette for screens, and more importantly, to produce white light. Major global corporations spent decades and millions of dollars trying to grow the high-quality, defect-free gallium nitride crystals required for high-energy blue emission, eventually abandoning the research as an impossible task. The breakthrough came when Akasaki and Amano successfully grew pure GaN crystals on a sapphire substrate in 1986, while engineer Shuji Nakamura perfected the technology by developing a unique commercial thermal annealing method to create an incredibly bright and cost-effective blue LED in 1993. This discovery completely transformed the world: coating a blue LED with a yellow phosphor layer provided humanity with energy-efficient white LED light, drastically reducing global electricity consumption for lighting, replacing inefficient incandescent bulbs, forming the basis for modern smartphone and TV displays, and enabling the creation of Blu-ray disc technology. #led #blue #Science #facts

I’m seriously considering getting more of these! If I kept them by the front door in the back door, I will actually stay on top of keeping my outdoor area is clean! This is one of the top things on TikTok though so definitely grab it before they sell out completely!
