Jacinta, I think some of the information being shared needs more balance. Many immigrants running small businesses in South Africa also contribute to the economy in different ways. Some employ fellow South Africans, pay rent to local property owners, buy stock from local suppliers, and pay VAT indirectly whenever they purchase goods and services. That money still circulates within the economy so you can't say that money goes back to somalia or Ethiopia because it is a lie.
Frustrations about unemployment and crime are real concerns for many citizens, but blaming every foreigner creates a dangerous narrative that can easily fuel division and violence among countries. Immigration issues should be handled through fair laws and proper documentation processes, not selective anger against certain groups while excusing others. Fix the police and immigration officers.
South Africa is also deeply connected to the rest of Africa economically. Many South African companies earn significant revenue from neighboring countries and the wider continent. If other countries responded with boycotts or hostility toward South African businesses, the economic consequences could affect ordinary South Africans too.
Every action has a reaction. History has already shown that hostility toward business communities or immigrants can damage economies in the long run see Uganda after chasing Indian immigrants in 1978.
The better approach is to strengthen institutions, improve border management, create opportunities, and encourage lawful business practices without promoting hatred or tribal politics.
