Para quienes no hablamos mandarín como lengua materna, puede ser difícil entender de inmediato el peso detrás de esta “broma”. Pero cualquiera que vio el episodio pudo sentir claramente que, desde ese momento, el ambiente dejó de ser juguetón y empezó a sentirse malicioso. En el episodio final, el elenco hizo una sección de “premios chistosos” donde todos recibían cumplidos ligeros y apodos lindos. Pero cuando llegó el turno de Dylan, el tono cambió por completo. Y se puede ver en este video su reacción cuando a propósito dicen mal su nombre. El nombre escrito real de Dylan es 王鹤棣. El último carácter, 棣 (Dì), se refiere al árbol de almendra de jardín, un símbolo tradicional de hermandad y armonía, que representa lazos duraderos y apoyo incluso ante el cambio. Él siempre ha estado muy orgulloso de su nombre. Durante la sección, reemplazaron 棣 por 底, convirtiendo su nombre en 王鹤底. 底 significa “fondo”/“parte de abajo”. En chino, cambiar un nombre así, especialmente con un significado simbólico, no es un juego de palabras inofensivo. Se siente irrespetuoso y humillante.
