@hopewithholly: Replying to @TobinFrost Most people were taught that the Bible dropped out of heaven completely unique and untouched by human culture. But that’s not what history shows. The ancient world was full of shared stories, flood myths, creation stories, wisdom literature, divine birth narratives, and law codes long before the Bible reached its final form. The flood story in Genesis has striking similarities to older Mesopotamian texts like Gilgamesh and Atrahasis. Parts of Proverbs closely resemble older Egyptian wisdom literature. The laws in Exodus echo ancient Near Eastern law codes like Hammurabi. Even stories like Moses in the basket have earlier parallels. That doesn’t automatically mean the Bible is “fake.” But it DOES mean the biblical authors were writing within an ancient cultural and literary world — not in isolation from it. The more I study history, archaeology, language, and comparative mythology… the harder it becomes to pretend the Bible is a completely original document untouched by human influence. And I think people deserve to know that. Faith should never be afraid of honesty, context, or evidence. #biblestudy #Deconstruction #Exvangelical #religioustrauma #exfundie

I took a world religion and ancient mythology class and practically yelled "wait a damn minute" by day four. That class launched me into deconstructing everything I had been taught. 😂

The New Testament is not exempt from this either for example the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (found in Luke 16:19-30) shares remarkable parallels with ancient Egyptian folklore, specifically the tale of Setme and his son Si-Osire.

Carl Jung argued that myths, gods, heroes, and monsters often express “archetypes “- universal patterns that emerge from the human psyche. A more metaphysical interpretation in some esoteric traditions goes even further, archetypes are not merely psychological structures but fundamental patterns woven into reality itself.
