It’s normal for kids to be annoyed and embarrassed by their parents, but genuine HATE is unnatural. Those are the kids who grow up and go no contact.

I use to daydream about having a different mom or being adopted by one of my teachers

That part. You’d only hate your parents if they aren’t treating you well.

yeah it's not teen angst, it's the normal reaction to consistently feeling small, dismissed and belittled.

When I moved back home at 25, all of a sudden my teenage angst came back. It wasn’t teenage angst. It was feeling unwelcome in my own home.

I vented about this to a teacher saying “I am not being a typical teenager. I am a VICTIM.”

I was always treated as responsible when my parents needed something and as some small, incapable thing the SECOND I wanted to do anything for me

It can be hard to be 15 and having a diary and an emo phase and a wattpad phase is normal. Never wanting to be home is not. Sleeping to avoid your family is not.

the "teenage angst" is just teenagers realizing that being treated terribly is not normal or ok

It’s normal for teenage brains to push boundaries. I think many adults misinterpret push back for hate and disrespect. They’re learning. It’s a liminal space between “not quite an adult but still not a total child.” They’re still learning and testing. It’s not a sign of hate.

Yes! Like, maybe being a little moodier makes sense, but I hated my parents BECAUSE OF HOW THEY ACTED AND TREATED ME. I never understand when adults are like “and then I realized my parents were always right.” I’m 35 years old now and still on teenage me’s side.

another thing is emotions. Our school doctor once told me that cronic feeling of emptines is a normal part of teen life.

The only cure for having enjoyable teenage years with your kids is by connecting with them from the moment they are born , becoming a safe place and allowing them to be wildly who they are. And yes it will have its challenges. Connection=influence
