@iaffofficial: Fire engines used to cost $300K–$500K. Some now cost more than $1 million. Ladder trucks can reach $2 million. Departments are paying more, waiting longer, and asking why. #firefighter #ems #IAFF
Everyone understands the problem, but our Congress isn't doing anything about it

The IAFF has been pushing for answers as departments deal with rising costs and long waits for new apparatus.

wait till you see how bad it gets for ambulances, used to be 70-80k a truck but now its close to 140 and theres about a 3 year wait. plus we're having to send the new ones back because half the stuff doesn't work or fails after 3 months of use

to top it all off you pay millions of dollars for rigs and spend the first year fixing the millions of problems it has. its a joke and they manufacturers need to be held accountable

We need to be fighting for the extreme costs of the motors for these apparatus. Particularly with the additional emissions systems. Cummins is literally the only motor manufacturer unless you buy a Pierce and they have a huge monopoly

3 million currently for a new ladder truck. priced us right out of ordering a new one, that we desperately need.

It would be nice if IAFF, FAMA, and others would work together to force an exemption for emissions systems on emergency vehicles. Emissions is also going to push new apparatus costs up $60-100k next year BTW
