And it goes BOTH ways! My parents divorced and my dad was struggling. My mom gave him the room in the basement to get back on his feet. You LOVED someone once, you love them forever, even if you not good together anymore. You have kids. Take care of each other.

God forbid divorced people still show up for each other. In the reverse- my parents have been divorced for 18 years. My dad’s girlfriend was seriously ill and in need of surgery. My mom is a healthcare executive with national connections. She used her connections to get my dad’s girlfriend in with specialists and VIP treatment. My dad never asked her either. They barely speak to each other. But at the end of the day, we’re all still family.
