@npr: Air travel continues to get more expensive ahead of the busy summer season. A domestic flight in mid-May costs, on average, about $94 more than it did a year ago, according to Kayak. International flights have gone up even more. The war with Iran is to blame — the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has sent up the cost of jet fuel and, with it, airline prices. A flight to London costs about $350 more than it did a year ago, according to Kayak. And while domestic flights are cheaper than international, they're still up 30% from a year ago. I distinctly remember airlines getting pissy during covid because they were paying the contract rate for jet fuel which due to lockdowns was more expensive than market rate. Are they no longer under contract rates?
