One of the most exhausting journeys in life is trying to fix someone who does not believe there is a problem with their behaviour. You can offer advice. You can be patient. You can pray for them. You can give countless second chances. Yet nothing changes because real change begins with awareness. A person cannot address a problem they refuse to acknowledge. Many people become comfortable in their dysfunction. Their habits, attitudes, and behaviours have become normal to them. What others clearly see as harmful, they may see as acceptable. As a result, they feel no urgency to grow, improve, or make different choices. The danger is that when you spend all your energy trying to fix someone else, you slowly begin to neglect yourself. You lose your peace. You lose your joy. You lose your identity. You become so focused on rescuing them that you forget to take care of your own emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. It is important to understand that you are responsible for helping people, but you are not responsible for changing them. Change is a personal decision that must come from within. No amount of pressure, persuasion, or sacrifice can force someone to become who they do not want to be. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is step back and allow people to face the consequences of their choices. Give support where it is welcomed, but do not carry burdens that were never yours to carry. Protect your peace. Guard your heart. Continue to grow, learn, and become the person God has called you to be. Remember, your purpose is not to lose yourself while trying to save someone who refuses to save themselves. Pray for people. Encourage them. Love them. But understand this truth, you cannot change someone who does not want to change. Only they can make that decision. Proverbs 4:23
