@thatexpatmom: When I first moved to El Salvador 15 years ago, it was known as the murder capital of the world. That is a painful truth, but it is also part of the reality many Salvadoran families lived through. I remember decoy phones. I remember not being able to walk outside or ride public transportation without fear. I remember the rules families followed just to stay safe. And I also know I had the privilege of not being affected the way so many Salvadoran families were. And even then, I loved this country. I loved it because I could see the warmth of the people, the natural beauty, and the family values that have always lived here. For years, I wished so deeply that El Salvador could become safe for the people who deserved it most, because I just knew that if this country could ever become safe, it would flourish. And now, after living here for over 15 years, I have had the privilege of watching that wish come true in real time. Today, El Salvador is recognized as one of the safest countries in the world, and the difference is something you can feel in everyday life. Families go out at night. Kids play in parks. People ride public transportation, walk through towns with their phones in their hands, gather in public spaces, visit beaches, lakes, volcanoes, restaurants, festivals, and events with a freedom that once felt impossible. Hospitals and schools are being rebuilt. Tourism is thriving. And the country is now getting the reputation it actually deserves. There is still progress to be made. There always is. Countries are constantly evolving. But I will never take for granted what it means to live in a country that is healing, growing, and flourishing in real time. And I also know this with deep respect: Not everyone had the choice to stay. Many Salvadoran families had to leave to build safer, more stable lives for their children. That takes courage. And that deserves respect. My experience moving abroad was not the same as it was for many Salvadoran families. So if that is your story, if you or your family had to leave, I just want to say this with love: El Salvador is still here. Still beautiful. Still strong. Still full of heart. And whenever you are able to come back, even if just for a visit, it will be right here waiting, growing, and rooted in the hearts of the people who carry it with them wherever they go. ☀️🇸🇻 #ElSalvador #SalvadoransAbroad #LifeInElSalvador #ElSalvadorTravel #ThisIsElSalvador

Your words brought tears to my eyes. I fled my country to keep myself and my daughters safe; I have spent 20 years in your country, grateful to God and to the nation for the chance to live in peace. Today, we are treated like criminals, and it hurts deeply to be far from our people, but we remain grateful for the opportunity this country has given us. Thank you for your kind words about my country; I love yours, too. 🇺🇸🇸🇻
