10 COMMON INJECTIONS AND THEIR USES EDUCATION PURPOSE Only | Follow Pharmacy with Ashraf  1.CEFTRIAXONE (1 g)  Class: Antibiotic – 3rd generation cephalosporin   Common Uses / Indications: Used for bacterial infections including pneumonia, UTI, typhoid fever, meningitis, and sepsis.   Route: IV or IM. For IM, give deep in large muscle.   Important Notes: Check for allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins before use. Adjust dose in severe renal impairment. Do not mix with calcium-containing solutions. 2.PANTOPRAZOLE (40 mg)  Class: Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)   Common Uses / Indications: Used for GERD, peptic ulcer disease, and stress ulcer prophylaxis. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. 3.ONDANSETRON (4 mg/2 mL)   Class: Antiemetic – 5-HT₃ antagonist  Common Uses / Indications: Controls nausea and vomiting, post-operative vomiting, and chemotherapy or radiation induced vomiting.   Route: IV or IM. Slow IV is preferred.   Important Notes: May cause headache and constipation. Use caution due to risk of prolonged QT interval. 4.DICLOFENAC (75 mg/3 mL)  Class: NSAID – Analgesic & Anti-inflammatory   Common Uses / Indications: For pain relief in musculoskeletal pain, post-operative pain, and dysmenorrhea.   Route: Deep IM only.   Important Notes: Avoid in gastric ulcer, bleeding disorders, and severe kidney disease. Not recommended in 3rd trimester of pregnancy. 5.TRAMADOL (50 mg/2 mL) Class: Opioid Analgesic   Common Uses / Indications: Used for moderate to severe pain, post-operative pain, and trauma pain.   Route: IV or IM. Give IV slowly.   Important Notes: Risk of dependence, dizziness, and nausea. Use cautiously in patients with seizure disorder. 6.DEXAMETHASONE (4 mg/mL)  Class: Corticosteroid   Common Uses / Indications: Used in allergic reactions, asthma exacerbation, cerebral edema, and as an anti-inflammatory.   Route: IV, IM, or Oral.   Important Notes: May cause hyperglycemia and immunosuppression. Taper the dose if used long term. 7.HYDROCORTISONE (100 mg) Class: Corticosteroid   Common Uses / Indications: For adrenal insufficiency, severe allergies, and as adjunct therapy in shock.   Route: IV or IM deep. Topical form is also available.   Important Note: Monitor BP, glucose, electrolytes. Do not stop abruptly after prolonged use. 8. MAGNESIUM SULFATE (20% – 10 mL)  Class: Electrolyte   Common Uses / Indications: Used for eclampsia/preeclampsia, torsades de pointes, severe hypomagnesemia, severe asthma exacerbation.   Route: IV slow, over 10–20 minutes.   Important Notes: Monitor reflexes, respiratory rate, and urine output. Antidote for toxicity is Calcium gluconate. 9. ADRENALINE (1 mg/mL)  Class: Vasopressor   Common Uses / Indications: First-line for anaphylaxis, also used in cardiac arrest, severe asthma, and hypotension due to shock.
