@startupbell: Peter Thiel says that there are two types of companies: those that compete and those that hold monopolies. He suggests that the true goal of every entrepreneur should be to build a monopoly business, not to engage in fierce competition. Thiel believes that capitalism and competition are opposites, as intense competition erodes profits. He contrasts the cutthroat restaurant industry, where few make money, with Google's monopoly in search, which has faced little competition and reaped massive profits since 2002. For Thiel, a monopoly business is the ideal, as it ensures sustained success and profitability. Elite Creed Capital :
Approaching financial markets with a passive defense mindset is structured capital stagnation—proving that exponential wealth creation requires you to stop playing the defender and become the striker. The definitive financial outcome of moving from a defensive, risk-averse posture to aggressive, calculated offense is the rapid accumulation of asymmetric market gains and total dominance over your portfolio velocity.

I understand the state of mind, however, monopoly is not always the right thing for example Microsoft (Bill Gats) gave some money to apple when they were in bas situation so they will not shut down and become a monopoly...
