If you’re house is paid for you shouldn’t have property taxes. They should also be fixed on when you purchased, not on unrealized “gains”.

Property tax on a primary residence is fine. It should be capped over the age of 65. Secondary properties and on should be progressively taxed higher. Every additional property higher than the last. Mostly property values should be controlled like a rent controlled apartment, limiting how much municipalities can raise your property taxes, but only on a primary residence. Property taxes need to be at a higher rate on businesses because they use more municipal services.

Property tax is a very unfair tax. Your primary residence there should be no property tax

It needs to stop increasing every year based on unrealized gains and legislators need to find where they are leaving money on the table first. Who’s not paying, what loopholes can be closed, etc. We buy homes that we can afford based on numbers and calculations. Wages haven’t gone up. Property taxes should stay equal to that original equation.

It’s the only way schools get funding. Leave it high until we fix education funding.

If we don’t have properly taxes, where does the money come from for public services? Roads, emergency responders, public schools?

Votes to increase property tax should only happen on major election years. They do em on the off years cause they have a better chance of passing.Because fewer people vote

I'm fine with property taxes however it seems whenever the budget is short that's the first place to try to get money from and over time it starts to feel unsustainable. I was lucky to be able to buy what I thought was an affordable house as a millennial but between random fixes on a 100+ yr old property, ever increasing property taxes, and wages that aren't keeping up with the cost of living--- I was drowning. having an "asset" doesn't help me when I can't keep up. I sold my house (had it for 15 yrs) and moved in with my in-laws. it feels like I'm going backwards. I'm not sure what the solution is though. a wealth tax? remove tax benefits/offsets from large businesses and data centers? property tax on the purchase price and not it's perceived value?

This is the second video I’ve seen of you and you haven’t mentioned any one thing you do as governor. Forget asking TikTok commentators what they want, tell us your beliefs and convictions. Tell us how you’ll help Minnesotans.

property tax is a tax on unrealized gains, I paid tax when I bought my house, I should bot have to continue paying tax on some imaginary number set arbitrarily by someone who says it's value has increased. However, I'm okay with my property taxes going into a dedicated account specifically earmarked for the education fund of the district I live in, the way it is supposed to, and not being divided out by the county to whatever they deem necessary. When the home I could afford 12 years ago is quickly becoming unaffordable due to taxes and insurance increases, while my wages have doubled in that same time frame, that's a problem, and there are a lot of people that haven't had wage growth in any way meaningful in that time frame or longer

Property taxes make it so you NEVER own your home, which makes you a renter essentially. Raise state tax so everyone contributes, instead of only homeowners. If only Minnesota stopped giving away billions of our tax dollars, they might find uses that benefit Minnesotans instead.

I bought my home and now I can’t retire here because I’m being taxed to death. My property taxes have DOUBLED in 10 years. Imagine trying to raise children with an unplanned financial strain like that.

Robbery! They tell you what you homes worth then tax you off it! They can come up with any number they want! My home value was increased 20K a year and good luck fighting it! It’s criminal what they do! Property taxes pays for schools, although the people who don’t pay them own a home or property get to vote to pass them! Unfairness

Lower them. If I’m not mistaken we have the most expensive property taxes in the country. It’s ridiculous. I just bought a house in a small town, house was 270k and my property taxes are over 4k
