@tris.j.burns.data: Here’s a data movie scene that lives rent-free in my head. In Margin Call, a brilliant analyst presents his findings to the CEO. The CEO doesn’t care about the technical details. He wants the headline and what it means for the business. It’s a lesson many data professionals need to hear. Too many presentations are packed with complexity because we’re trying to prove how smart we are. Business leaders care far more about the decision, the risk, the opportunity, and the impact. When presenting data, simplify. Focus on what matters. Explain what it means and what should happen next. Nobody is impressed by complexity for its own sake. #dataanalytics #dataleadership #analytics
Management = get to the point Peer or another specialist = go into details

What stuck with me from this scene was the CEO and how he had zero problems admitting that he didn’t know enough about the technicalities, but wanted only the overview.

Same with strategists, good ones make the complex simple. Bad ones don’t shut up

That's why between specialists and other groups there are several layers of managers. These layers are needed for translation from technical nonsense to normal language

Its something that is forgotten in some places that everyone isn't supposed to know everything. people who focus on one small thing will be better than someone who focuses on everything else too. That is why we have experts. I used to work in an independent research organisation and i had a boss that was constantly trying to learn everything. He had a lightbulb moment one day when he realised i didn't have a clue about what the guy who sat next to me did and he had no clue what i did. The team worked well because we would constantly swap work between ourselves to get the right person for the job. Rather than taking it all in, he focused on learning what we were lacking from a management point, his life was way easier and the business ran better than ever.
