If you have a known or suspected infection that is 1 indicator to look at sepsis. Respiratory rate high, low Blood pressure, extreme low or high white blood cell count, lactic acid level high, blood cultures before antibiotics being given, iv fluids to help blood pressure if patient doesn’t get better BP then they need to be given special iv medication to raise BP. Sepsis treatment should be given asap there are 3 &6 hour reviews to see how patient is doing along with ongoing vital sign checks.

RN here and people with sepsis need triple antibiotic therapy with a central line and for days in a hospital. This was more than likely preventable with early treatment. I can’t understand why he wasn’t seen earlier.

I had a kidney stone one day and Sepsis the next. I have a medical background and knew something was wrong that "feeling of doom" is true. Trip to the ER and my vitals all fit for sepsis the hospital knew the protocol and got me on meds and got my fever down. Took several days in hospital to get it gone. Don't ignore the signs.
