الصلاة هي عماد الدين، من أقامها فقد أقام الدين، ومن هدمها فقد هدم الدين. هي الركن الثاني من أركان الإسلام الخمسة، وأول ما يُسأل عنه العبد يوم القيامة. في خضم مشاغل الحياة وضغوطاتها، تبقى الصلاة الملاذ الآمن والملجأ الذي يجد فيه الإنسان طمأنينته وراحته النفسية. إنها ليست مجرد طقس يؤديه المسلم، بل هي صلة وثيقة بين العبد وخالقه، تتجدد خمس مرات كل يوم وليلة . مكانة الصلاة وفضلُها للصلاة في الإسلام منزلة لا تدانيها منزلة أي عبادة أخرى. لقد فرضها الله - سبحانه وتعالى - على نبيه محمد ﷺ في أعلى مكان وأشرف زمان، وذلك في ليلة الإسراء والمعراج، حيث صعد الرسول إلى السموات العلا وتلقى هذه الفريضة مباشرة من الله دون واسطة. وقد فرضت في البداية خمسين صلاة، ثم خففها الله إلى خمس صلوات في العمل وهي بخمسين في الأجر والميزان، دلالة على عظمتها وتكرم الله على عباده . هي أول عبادة يحاسب عليها العبد يوم القيامة؛ ففي الحديث الشريف:
