@odellashlynn: I debated on posting this because recording it put me in a pretty rough mental state. But it’s not the discussion that lead to it all, it was the build up of emotions I’ve had. This past year has been the most imposter syndrome I’ve ever felt. EMS week just came and went. I sat down to have a day off and so many thoughts started flooding my head. I love doing my job. But it wouldn’t be this way without every core memory leading up to present day. #paramedic #ems #emt #ambulance #firefighter
Ashlynn, people need to see this. Especially the newer ones. It is hard out there in the beginning. People will make you feel bad for never knowing in the first place. This is why I will always treat the new people with love and respect the way I wish I was. It’s okay to make mistakes, it’s okay to not know the first time around. It’s never okay to make someone feel like sh*t. We are all here for one reason.♥️

I’m a brand new emt, this is so refreshing to hear that I’m not the only one that struggles being new and still having to ask questions

New friends in EMS, NEVER let anyone speak down to you or like you are less than, ask questions and if they have a issue with you asking questions, start going up the chain of command until you get your answers. As one of my paramedic friends once told me when I first started “You have a back bone. USE IT.”

I will never understand the “eat your young mentality.” We all get into this career at some point with little to no knowledge. So instead of bringing people down, lift each other up and teach instead of torture! Thank you for freely expressing your experience so others can feel seen and heard.

Hey Ashlynn, I’m a brand new paramedic and I’m having a hard time picking a system to work in. I only have IFT experience, I’m trying to do 911 without doing fire and that means moving from where I’m at right now. Willing to check out most states. I’m trying hard to avoid going to a system with exactly this kind of culture and would really love to land my first job somewhere that actually welcomes new providers and doesn’t just throw them to the wolves immediately. Do you have any recommendations on where to work for my first 911 service? Thanks for all you do!

Not sure why people decide to be so rude and critical of healthcare workers, especially starting out at young ages. So glad you found a supportive service, you seem like a great paramedic

I had a new hire come talk to me about a bad call that she had... She told me that she felt lost and with tears she asked what the criteria is for calling for help... I told her that the moment she feels that she needs assistance to call.... I would never judge her... If we can't help our co-workers then what goodbye we as a EMT/Paramedic/ PERSON????

As an FTO, I am so sorry that you went through that. People forget to stay humble. As a viewer, I am so proud of you! You are the true embodiment of what EMS looks like. We learn to better ourselves and techniques and keep up with the new stuff. You teach others so they know what to expect, the how-to, the confidence, the empathy! I truly aspire to be like you. GO GET 'EM! We need people like you to be on every truck, everyday.

I really hope that at some point early on that I will have a paramedic like you as a partner or even just in my service when I start as an EMT in August.
