I always do it at Walmart they have the trash barrels there to be able to do so. It is sold by the ears. That way you can see if it's good or not 🤷♀️

Here in Iowa, some grocery stores put bins out to shuck the corn, people want to see the quality and check for worms. I grew up, grandparents grew corn in PA & NJ, to never shuck corn until ready to cook. I find it ridiculous, you are drying the corn out.

I work at Walmart and its something that we allow...keeps you from buying a bad one. I personally would rather do it at home. I dont shuck at the store. Usually they put a trash can next to the corn so u can shuck it.

No, Walmart actually has trash cans next to the corn for that reason for you to throw that part away. So I don’t think she was wrong. I do the same thing because they actually have the trashcan they are for that.

My husband has the same opinion as Papa Rags but I always was taught that you only peel back the husk a little bit to check the quality of the corn but not all the way off

Wherever I buy corn, if they have a trash can nearby (which is very common in Baltimore), I will shuck the corn. If they don’t, I buy “as is”. I prefer to shuck the corn (if possible) so that I can make sure none are partially rotted or doesn’t have any worms. I also prefer “old corn” which is the bigger kernels. You can’t tell that unless you shuck the corn.

Walmart and Food Lion in our home state provide trash cans next to the corn so people can shuck before they leave if they choose to. I personally take it home that way, and leave it in a bag until I'm ready to use it. Also, from a holistic standpoint, you can take the corn silk, dry out the silk and boil them in water like a tea and it helps lower blood pressure, so for people that throw them away other people can gather the corn silk.

They usually have a can there. So you can do that. Yes, you pay per year right not by the pound. I shop at another store who provides the can so you can do that. Walmart use to have vans for that.

As long as it is not sold by the weight. I see no wrong in it. No she just didn’t want the mess to bring it home

most stores here in Kansas have a large trash can just for you to shuck your corn before you buy it. People also will take grapes off the vine and put them in a bag so they are getting their money's worth.
