I lived overseas for 6 years…I get it. I used to just fly Qantas going out of Australia and also coming back into Sydney so I could still feel connected to Australia. Flying an Australian airline to travel back home after you’ve been gone for so long just hits different.

I lived in Germany as an exchange student in '98. I was 14 and turned 15 while I was away. When we flew home, the sun was coming up over central Australia and they played 'I still call Australia home'. I lost my ship and stared sobbing. then someone started reciting "I love a sunburnt country..."

We got stuck in the Middle East during Covid and it took 8 months to get home. I will never forget hearing ‘Kia Ora and welcome home’, I broke down and cried holding my babies and husbands hands looking out the window feeling so relieved. Nothing like home 🥰
