Imagine a place where time feels like it just… stopped. Where women still wash clothes in the river, children roam, and doors stay open from sunrise to sundown. Maybe—12 hours of electricity a day. But there’s laughter, music, family, and peace. This is Bebarama, Chocó, Colombia — a village so remote, you can only get there by boat. It takes at least three hours along the river, and you can’t just show up — someone has to bring you in. Here, the river isn’t just a river — it’s how you bathe, how you travel, how you survive. An Afro-Colombian village, with a few Indigenous families nearby and more Indigenous tribes just around the bend. This isn’t a place for tourists — it’s a place where the world has remained still while everything else races ahead. Bebarama sits in one of the rainiest regions on Earth. Rain is part of life here — not something to avoid, but something you live with. And even with so little, the people of Bebarama are among the most generous I’ve ever met. Strangers offer you a meal, a hammock, conversation, and a sense of belonging. The women are not just caregivers, healers, midwives, and keepers of tradition. Their knowledge of plants, rituals, and oral history is essential to the village's survival. While there may be basic schooling, most learning happens hands-on: fishing, farming, cooking, and storytelling. Children grow up with a deep understanding of the land and the river before they ever learn to write their names This place changed how I see the world. Ask me how I got here. Ask me what I felt, what I learned, what I left behind. I’d love to tell you. This is Colombia, This is Choco, This is Bebarama . . . . . . . . . #Euphorictravel #solotravel #Colombia #choco #blacktravel
