Canadian here, what the hell is a registry? Never heard of this with regard to getting a driver's license. I have lived in numerous provinces, never heard this name.

post offices. US ones I've been to it's a really long wait and there aren't many of them in a city. in Canada pretty much every shoppers drug mart has a post office without a line.

American living in Alberta 👋 I was so shocked when I was able to get in and out of the Registry in less than 15 minutes. I remember telling my boss I needed to go get my license updated and that it would take a few hours and she looked at me like I had 3 heads

In New Brunswick it’s called Service New Brunswick. It took me 3 tries for the correct paperwork to make sure that I really resided in NB. After that it was easy. Finished importing my car in NB, and they had a license plate in the back. California DMV would never.
