The beautiful thing about Pounamu (pronounced poe-na-moo) is that it’s traditionally not bought for yourself and can only be gifted. It’s traditionally gifted on important occasions as a symbol of honour, respect, and permanence and should be blessed because it’s regarded as a tapu (sacred) part of te ao Māori (the Māori world) and a natural taonga (treasure) under the protection of ngā atua (the gods). I got one for my high school graduation from my grandparents.

When I was in kindergarten I was first diagnosed with diabetes. Our teacher would let parents of kids bring cake & candy when it was their birthday. I was used to being ignored or only getting fruit & crackers while everyone else got sweets. So when one of my classmates parents brought me a sugar free cake of my very own I was surprised. It’s been 35 years since but Officer Jones thank you.

I'm allergic to raw banana and I told my coworker I missed eating them but was happy I could still eat them cooked. we ended up going to see iron lung a few weeks after and he brought me a loaf of banana bread instead of flowers 🥰 I had only mentioned it to him one time, he's been my boyfriend since then ❤️❤️

I knew this girl who had a beautiful singing voice. We werent close but i said hi in the halls of school and always made sure to remind her how beautiful her voice was and to never stop singing. She messaged me after highschool and asked how i was. I told her i was going through a really hard time. A few weeks later she sent me a link to a video. It was a cheer up song she not only wrote, produced, sang and played every instrument, but also edited the video in a fun/playful way. At first i thought it was an old song, but she wrote my name into the lyrics. She literally wrote me my own personal cheer up song. Its been 15 years and it hits every time. I just sob in gratitude every time i hear it. Its the most perfect gift ive ever gotten.

My nanny had MS. When I turned 18 all I wanted was a tattoo of her writing. After not being able to hold a pen for over a year she wrote “love Nan Parr” on a piece of paper for my tattoo cause she wanted it to be exactly for me. It’s the last thing she ever wrote, she passed that year

my favorite super hero is Jessica Jones. years before the show, you couldn't find anything with her on it. so, my best friend bought a Barbie and hand made me a "Jewel" Barbie (Jessica Jones' first alter ego) and gave it to me for Christmas. It has made it through so many moves, I love it and her! 🥰🥰🥰

my grandpa had alzheimers and on his last year of his life he barely remembered much of his kids and who took care of him. he was in Mexico, and my mom was in a call with him while I was driving and they were talking. he hadn't remembered my mom in a long time but for that moment he said "mi flaca, como estas?" and my mom jumped and cried of joy and answered him "im good papi" and it was a week before her birthday, I like to believe he wanted to say hi to her one last time for her birthday 🫶🥺 i miss him..

I run early in the mornings. in the winter my hands get really cold even with the weather gear gloves. one day my dad left his big gloves on the kitchen counter every day so one mor ing I grabbed them and wore them over mine. it was perfect. I put them back before he was up so he didn't know. after weeks of doing this I finally told him I used his gloves. he said I know. thats why I keep them there. those are my gloves now.

I lost my wife to cancer several years ago. We have 3 amazing kids together, every year on Father’s Day my wife would get me a single beer and a cheap oven pizza which started when we had just had our first cause we were poor to be blunt. I loved it, even when our financials vastly improved that was the routine (among others) and I loved it. The first Father’s Day after she passed my kids got me the beer and pizza. When I say I cried, it was chest heaving sobs.

After being in financial ruins, one day I was able to buy my dream car (a Mini Cooper) for my next birthday after that mother gave me a self crocheted Mini Cooper that looked exactly like mine. It’s so sweet and awesome and it will always have a special place in my house

Before my grandma passed away we had a conversation about how bad I wanted to be a mom. She told me she thought I’d be a good mom and I knew she was telling the truth because she was a mean ole bitty. She passed in Nov 2022. 2weeks later I had my first positive pregnancy test in 2.5 years of trying. My grandma gifted me a baby. up until a few years ago i was super embarrassed of my name, the month my older brother turned 18 (hes 7 years older) he got my name tattooed on his right arm. he always spoke of how important his right arm is to him and how he has a whole sleeve planned for only things that mean alot to him.
