30km/h zones aren’t about punishing drivers - they’re about making mistakes survivable. At 30km/h, a pedestrian has around a 90% chance of surviving a collision. At 50km/h, that drops dramatically. Road safety shouldn’t wait for a death before action is taken. The safest streets are often the ones where proactive changes were made before tragedy occurred.

NZ changed its urban speed limits down and did a dumbed down ad trying to sell it. It was even implemented on major arterial routes. Considered a disaster for congestion it was scrapped
