Apparently there are about 62,000 people that regularly travel between London and Birmingham and their travel time is expected to be reduced by up to 30 minutes each way. The money spent on HS2 is equivalent to more than £1.6 million for each and every one of those 60,000 passengers 😀 I wonder how many of those passengers would have preferred to take £1.6 million cash and spend an extra 30 minutes on the train ?

Engineer here that worked on the project. HS2 shouldn’t have been sold as a “you can get to Birmingham quicker”. The Mai Bain of HS2 is to release pressure on the west coast main line by moving high speed trains onto a dedicated line and putting more freight from the motorway to WCML.

I done work for a guy who was somthing to do with IT on hs2 last year in July and he said it will go over well in to the 40S and it was losing well over a million pound a day

To imagine how much money is being wasted by UK Government, if we add up every penny ever spent by SpaceX, including R&D, operations, etc, we only get to about £50b. So it is cheaper for Elon to create a space agency than it is for the Uk to simply cancel HS2. And it could fund two SpaceX space agencies for the cost of building one railway line. Ridiculous.

tbf the guy in charge, Mark Wild, has only been doing it for 18 months and he did do Cross Rail before, which is relatively successful, so he's not been rewarded for incompetence
