@offenceregister: EDWARD WATSON MARGATE HISTORIC CHILD ABUSE JAILED A man who systematically subjected a young child to a horrific campaign of historic sexual abuse by locking them in a room over a seven-year period has been jailed. 49-year-old Edward Watson, formerly of Garrard Avenue, Margate, Kent, carried out a predatory series of physical violations. The Offences and Trial Details Watson callously denied the allegations, forcing the survivor to endure the immense pressure of a ten-day crown court trial to get justice. However, a jury saw straight through his defense, finding him guilty on all twelve counts, including gross indecency, indecent assault, and unlawful sexual intercourse. Sentences and Court Orders The judiciary at Canterbury Crown Court sentenced Watson to four years behind bars. To ensure permanent protection following his eventual release, the court ordered that he must be placed under mandatory multi-agency monitoring, remain on the sex offenders register for life, and obey an indefinite restraining order. Investigation and Impact Detective Constable Amy Edwards noted the incredible bravery of the victim in coming forward decades after the abuse began. The investigation established that the offences finally came to light in September 2023, with Kent Police arresting the predator just three days after the victim disclosed the profound trauma.
