Crazy enough, I had this exact conversation with my son's 1st grade teacher. he got 100 on every single test and project he did for the first quarter and she gave him Above average instead of Excellent on his report card. Her excuse was the same as this. I lost it and called the principal and said it's not accurate and feels like a punishment. I threw out the report card in front of my son. Principal made sure it never happened again. He just graduated 4.0 from an Ivy League school.
