@foragedbyfern: This week's activity to get you outside thinking “NATURE IS SO COOL!” 🌱😍 because nettle leaves are some of the most beautiful and tasty leaves in the world! And… the crisps are delicious! 🤤 I ate the whole bowl within 5 minutes of cooking them. Nettles are an integral part of our ecosystem, so please follow the foraging advice in the video. Take just a few leaves from each plant, leaving plenty behind, and check the undersides of the leaves to make sure butterflies haven’t laid their eggs on them before you snip them. 🦋 If YOU love nature and you have just one minute to spare, there is a link in my bio for the petition of the week. Petitions DO make a difference and we need names on them so people in power know what changes we want to make happen. 🙏 Recipe: 20 large, flat nettle leaves from pre-flowering plants Oil for frying 1 tsp salt ½ tsp smoked paprika Makes 1 bowl If giving your nettle leaves a wash, make sure you dry them very thoroughly (if they’re wet, they won’t crisp up) Roll each nettle on both sides with a rolling pin (you want to crush the little hairs - so firm pressure!) Heat a few cm of oil in a pan over a low to medium heat Place a few nettle leave into the oil at a time, and allow to fry for roughly 10 seconds on each side (if your crisps go brown, your oil is too hot! Turn down the heat, wait, and try again, they should stay green) Place the nettles on a tea towel to drain, then pour them all into a bowl, season and enjoy!
